Here in the UK we are a very house proud nation. Its not surprising when you take a trip to your local newsagent and you see the amount of home improvement magazines available. Or you turn on your television and flick through the channels and see the amount of home improvement shows there are. Thanks to the media many of us have become obsessed by home improvements.
However in the current economic climate we are all looking for ways to save money and we want to know that any home improvements that we make will be a sound investment. Adding extra living space to your home is usually a great way to add extra value to your property and make it a more enjoyable place to live. For the last few years uPVC conservatories have been one of the most popular ways of adding extra living space to a property as they are affordable, easy to maintain and add a light and airy space like no other room in your home.
Recently however we have seen a huge increase in the popularity of orangeries. When you see an orangery for the first time its obvious why they have become so popular. Orangeries have been dubbed as the next generation of conservatory. They offer the same light and airy feel as a uPVC conservatory thanks to the glass roof. But they often also have a more contemporary look due to the increased amount of brick work. For these reasons orangeries are currently very desirable and are said to be a great way to add value to a property as well as making it a great place to live.
Another home improvement technique which is also a sound investment is double glazing. Adding double glazing to any property will make a huge difference. It will not only improve the appearance of the property on both the inside and the out but it will also make the property far more energy efficient and easier to maintain. Therefore double glazing will not only make you home more desirable if you decide to see in the future but it will also make it a cheaper place to live as you will save money on you gas and electricity bills.
Having a nice place to live is very important but now more so than ever it is important to make sure that any home improvements that you make to your property are going to be a sound investment.

Home Improvement – Recycling to Aid the Poor
March 12th, 2010
As we continue to update and modernize our own homes, the problem arises concerning the proper way of disposing of the items that we have replaced. Do we overload our scrap yards without giving it a second thought or do we just dump the unwanted item wherever we can? Let’s forget about both of these objectionable options and strongly consider recycling to aid the poor.
As a result of higher energy costs, many homeowners are choosing to replace their existing windows with new energy efficient, double pane windows. This process mandates that the homeowner remove any storm windows that are currently installed over the windows that are to be replaced. Thoughtlessly discarding these perfectly good storm windows into the trash pile is absolutely wasteful and shameful. A better option would be to consider recycle these unwanted windows; recycling them to a charity that aids the poor and the needy people of this country.
Many homes today do not have storm windows at all. These homeowners are simply too poor to remodel their homes. This means that their winter energy bills are always outrageously high in spite of the fact that they are still cold. There are organizations whose main objective is to give aid to the poor. All they need is for caring people to recycle their unwanted items like storm windows. However, even though this article is about storm windows in particular, recycling to aid the poor can include anything from clothing to unwanted cars.
And if recycling to aid the poor is not satisfying enough, you can also save money on your federal income taxes by being qualified for making a charitable donation.

Your Simple Home Improvement
March 11th, 2010
Home improvement is necessary if you intend to sell your home for some reasonable amount. Even if you do not want to sell the property, it is important that you fix problems with the house you live in or the house that gives you money from renters.
Selling an old structured and mismanaged home can be really frustrating, be ready to see disappointments in the eyes and faces of buyers. Truth is about 90% of buyers look out for well managed; replaced if necessary, home structures and fittings before going into any form of purchasing agreement.
Putting up loft conversion of at least 2.4m high adds a very unique value to the home for buyers. This has a way of increasing the overall value for the property.
Room additions will also increase value. This can go up as much as 11%. Do this wisely so as to properly manage outside space. Buyers love space!
Be smart when you do the space thing. The open plan is good because buyers like the free flow of natural light and kitchen luminance. Over exposing can drive a certain class of buyers away. For example, family buyers might not feel very relaxed in an over opened surrounding.
One thing that should be placed right is the central heating facility. Heating systems are very important. By providing a modern heating facility, you will increase the property value up to 13%
Do not forget the toilets and kitchens. The traffic in and out of these places shows how important these rooms are. Keep them looking at their best at all times. You can do some creative room paintings using sweet colors; this will increase the property value.
